Knowing His Word!
While we were enjoying a Christmas breakfast at the home of our daughter Heather and her family, I noticed two ladies with their small children coming to their door. They were JW’s (I don’t like calling them “Jehovah’s Witnesses” because they are most definitely NOT witnesses of the God of heaven), and so I decided to meet them at the door.
They were polite and eager to talk, so I took the occasion to speak to them on how a person is forgiven of their sins, made holy, and becomes a new creature in Christ, able to enter the presence of God in heaven. They began searching their corrupted bible while I continued to give them God’s Word. My heart broke as I looked at the small children of these two ladies, knowing that if their mothers did not find God’s way to heaven they most likely never would.
I finally told them I was a Baptist pastor. One lady replied she had grown up in a Baptist church before becoming a JW. I said it was sad that she did not know her Bible that well, because if she had, she would have never believed the lies of this cult. That did not sit well with her, and she left slightly less happy than when she came.
Too many professing believers stumble, get confused or frustrated, and even walk away from the Lord Who loves them, all because of neglect of His precious Book.
It is the duty of the local church to take the truth of God’s Word and proclaim it and teach it. It is the duty of God’s people to listen and to meditate on it and to assimilate it into the fabric of their very being:
Eph 4:11-15: (11) And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; (12) For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: (13) Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: (14) That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; (15) But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
We don’t know what 2015 holds for us, but we DO know that our Bibles hold everything we need for wisdom and direction in it. Our God stands by to not only preserve His Word but to empower His Word in all those who cherish His Word.
We bear precious seed when we carry the gospel in our hands and hearts.
